personality:
Okay Rex, Rex is a lot of things, first of is that he is far too overconfident at times. Especially when the normal teenager mentality of being invulnerable is given some credence due to his abilities. This means that a lot of times he takes on far more then he can feasibly do and tends to be reckless and impulsive to the point that most of his 'strategy' is to smash things in the face until they don't get back up again. Which wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't also coupled with a major case of teenage rebellion that makes things even more difficult for the adults in his life as they are made to deal with it at the worst possible times.
Being headstrong and completely set in his ways also makes keeping him under control a bit of a challenge for people, even when all they are trying to do is keep him from ending up mangled or dead in some ditch out in the wilderness. This all comes together at times to make him seem petty and self centered. Especially if one were to look at his actions when Ultimate Exposure (The main 'news' channel in the show) was taking a tour of Providence main headquarters and Rex kept attempting to be in the spotlight. As well as the fact that he has no qualms in making certain that everyone knows who to thank or adore when he takes an EVO down.
Rex also has a bad habit of not really thinking before talking and a competitive streak that has also gotten him in trouble with others. Especially if it's the first impression and thus makes him come off self centered and petty.
However despite these flaws, Rex actually does have a lot of empathy and a good heart underneath it all.
This is highlighted a lot in how many a times Rex will bring himself to the brink of collapse or serious harm in an attempt to cure and save an EVO. Often times commenting on how the EVOs have family and friends that are hoping that they can be cured and brought back to normal. This gives Rex a very empathetic view to them and anything else that is labeled a freak or monster without a second thought. Likely due to the fact that as an EVO himself he knows what it is like to feel like he doesn't really belong anywhere. In this vein as well Rex also has a large amount of compassion and consideration to keeping others safe, especially those that can not defend themselves or had been dragged into something they did not want.
Often times this empathy can also be a bad thing as well, as Rex tends to also forgive people easily if they even act like they are sorry for what they have done in regards to him. (Despite the fact that Noah was basically paid to be his friend, Rex forgave and let such be forgotten when most people would be hurt and not as trusting of someone after such.) It also means that he tends to carry a grudge and single mindedness in regards to those that threaten others. (As shown in how it takes practically the end of the world for him to even grudgingly listen and ally with Van Kleiss.)
Another big factor in Rex's life is his value of those that he considers family. (This is mainly Six, Dr. Holiday, Bobo, Noah, and his brother Caesar. White Knight is likely also part of this deep down, but Rex won't ever admit it.) Due to his amnesia and the fact that he likely could at anytime lose all of his memories again, Rex tends to cling and cherish fiercely those close to him. This also leads into him being possessive of them and objects that have sentimental value. (In Double Vision, Rex loses his goggles and spends the entire time attempting to get them back. Saying that they were one of a kind because of the fact that they were from Six and the first present he could remember getting from anyone that cared about him. Even though the goggles were so common a delivery company used them as part of their employees uniform.)
This also means that a lot of Rex's bravado and bratty behavior is likely because of fear and insecurity. Having literally no memories (Aside from vague flashes now and again brought on by anesthesia and other triggers, he is basically building himself up from scratch, without only about two years of memories to draw off of. Add the fact that he is basically the only cure there is for the EVO problem and having thus the pressure of not being able to make a mistake or risk lives being loss also gives him a complex of having to do everything he can in a situation. Especially as in the early days of being part of Providence since if he messed up they were not above nuking an entire city to keep the EVO from destroyingthe world/country/nation lives.
Also having never really having a chance(Or really remembering it to be more accurate) to interact with those his age, or those that are normal really, Rex also doesn't really seem as much like a teenager in certain aspects. After all how many teens are risking their lives to save the world before they are even allowed to legally drive? So in a lot of ways Rex is more responsible and mature compared to other teenagers in regards to the world and the bigger picture, due to his status in Providence. This doesn't mean he is a mini adult in any sort of way. Rex prefers hanging out then doing work, going to parties, or trying to flirt with that cute girl he just met. He just knows that sometimes he has miss that new movie in order to stop a poodle gone EVO from eating its owner.
Rex also takes a live life to the fullest mentality as well. Having only eighteen months worth of memories to go off of, Rex is always up for a new adventure and doing anything and everything that he can. Figuring that if he's going to lose the memories at some point again, that they might as well be some of the best memories that had ever been wiped from his mind. Which paints him firmly in the camp of optimists for the most part and that he refuses to feel sorry for himself or be angry about the life he has been dealt. In a lot of ways (Though once again as he has no real basis to compare.) he really enjoys his life and actually feels proud and accomplished when he is able to go out and fight an EVO and win.
He also has an odd fascination with a Spanish soap opera called El Amor, De La Pasión, El Amor that is to the point that he literally has a fanboy moment when he finds out Noah works at the same studio lot that the show is filmed.
abilities/powers:
Woo boy this section is going to be a bit of a doozy. Bullet point ahoy!
--Due to an event the entire world was blanketed in tiny microscopic machines called Nanites that have infused every single living thing with themselves. This of course wouldn't be too bad of a thing as they were originally being made to help stop diseases and other miracles of science. However as they were not supposed to be unleashed like that and at this stage of their development a phenomena known as going E.V.O. occurs in an almost random seeming order across the globe. These Exponentially Variegated Organisms are pretty much this shows version of mutations gone horribly wrong. As most EVOs end up being monstrous creatures that seem mindlessly hell bent on killing off non EVOs. However, not all those who have their nanites go into overdrive go completely mindless and a like one in ten thousand keep mind and sanity. (Or close to sanity in some cases) Rex is one of those who managed to keep control of his nanites when they over juiced, which has given him a plethora of abilities and a lot of side effects as well.
Abilities-
--Technopathy: Due to the nature of his nanites, Rex can make a connection with any machine and 'talk' to it, he also can 'listen' to a machine and thus be told if anything is wrong with the machine or such. This is mostly used to ask doors to open, and locks to disengage, or even to power down if needed. A handy thing especially as it means he can bypass all that need to know how to hack and such. There is also a drawback to this as well, as sometimes if there are too many voices Rex can get overwhelmed and actually lose consciousness due to the information overload in his mind. There is also a drawback that sometimes a machine just doesn't seem to like him and refuses to obey...or blow up in his face when he tries to make them power down.
--E.V.O. Curing: The bread and butter power for Rex and the reason he even is in Providence. Due to the nature of having a different batch of nanites then the rest of the world, and his ability to control them, Rex is able to order his nanites to snatch the nanites from an EVO and bring them into his own body were he deactivates them. Taking enough away that the EVO reverts back to its natural state. At first Rex could only cure humans turned EVO and only if he could get them to not fight him by agreeing to it or being knocked out. Over time and by receiving what is called the Omega nanite, Rex has been able to cure a lot better and a lot more. Even with this nanite there are a lot of dangers as well involved in curing his fellow EVOs. First and foremost is the fact that some nanites have evolved in a way that he can not control them and thus are labeled as incurable. If Rex attempts to cure one it can lead to a great amount of pain for himself and (as seen in episode Divide by Six) sometimes the incurable's nanites can take Rex over briefly. (Luckily this has only resulted so far in them using Rex as a mouthpiece) There is also a limit to how many nanites Rex can take in at one time, if he goes over this limit the nanites begin to grow over his body as metallic tumorous sacks unless he can offload the nanites somewhere. A final danger is that if he were to take in corrupted nanites he also runs the risk of those nanites actually destabilizing his own body and having it break apart due to it.
--Superhuman durability: On numerous occasions in the show Rex has been thrown throw walls, fallen from great heights, smashed, beaten, blown up, and just generally survived things that no normal person could ever hope to survive without being put in traction. Yet Rex mostly walks away with only bumps and bruises after such. The theory is that due to his nanites having survival instincts (As shown in Promises, Promises when they attack the Doctor trying to study him while he was unconscious.) they make certain to keep him armored/padded to survive such. He also seems to not suffer from most common aliments like colds and such as well, the fact that it is stated his nanites were given to him due to a fatal accident that should have killed him; only for the nanites to save and completely heal him.
--Machine enhanced strength: Rex has pretty normal/failtastic strength on his own. (As seen how he can't do push ups/sit ups unassisted.) However whenever he uses one of his machines it seems as if he has acquired Superman like strength. Stopping speeding subway trains, smashing buildings and just performing physical feats that no normal person should be able to do. All thanks to his machines.
--Omega-1 Nanite: A nanite that is more advance then other nanites, giving off its own unique signature and everything. Given to Rex by Dr. Gabriel Rylander this nanite pretty much acted like a power up for Rex in terms of his nanite based abilities. Allowing him to cure EVOs better, build new machines, and even come back from being clinically dead. (In the episode Swarm, Rex drowns and Omega-1 literally starts his heart back up again.) This nanite also gives Rex another ability that is useful considering his skills in that the Omega-1 allows Rex to produce an infinite supply of nanites. This comes in handy when up against those like Van Kleiss who drains nanites from others, and because of the fact that his nanites are used to create his machines.
--Intelligence: Though Rex doesn't portray it often, and at times seems to go out of his way to seem slow and uninformed this isn't really the case. Being the son of two genius scientists and the younger brother to another genius who had all helped create the nanites in the first place, Rex was bound to have some smarts and he does. (Canonically the only real show of this is the fact that in one episode when Noah mentions Pre-Calculus Rex acts like he has no clue what that is, yet later on in another episode Rex acts nonchalant over being called a Trigonometry prodigy. Saying that it's just Trig and he uses it all the time for his Smash Cannon.) Head canon I see him also having a very deep understanding of electronics and machinery due to his technopathy ability and just because of how his nanites are.
--Languages: Rex is shown to understand both Chinese and Spanish making him Multilingual in a way. However he has never shown in canon if he can speak Chinese, and his own brother laughs at him when he speaks Spanish. As Rex tends to mangle what he is saying, and has a distinct American accent, especially compared to his brother's accent. This of course doesn't stop him from using words or even full sentences of Spanish in his own speech.
--Acrobatics: Rex's way of battle has him flipping, tumbling, and even parkouring across monsters/buildings/debris. Making him very quick in reflexes and speed. When he's paying attention and not being ambushed or such.
--Breach Sensing: Though likely not to be used in game. Rex has gained an ability to sense when Breech (An EVO that works for Van Kleiss, and is able to tear holes in the fabric of reality. Aka she is a portal gun.) is close by and using her ability.
--Goggles: Rex's goggles were given an upgrade by the Providence Defection group making them from ordinary goggles into an actual tool. The goggles now being able to see in x-ray, thermal, and nanite.
--Machine Manifestation: (As said from the Generator Rex Wikia) Rex can shape his nanites into a variety of machinery. He uses these for offense, defense, and transportation. The weapons he forms out of his body can be destroyed, but he usually can reform them quickly afterward. /quote. The machines that Rex makes are various and numerous, especially from the canon point I am taking him from. Instead of making this application even longer then what it already is I think it would be easier and more organized to have a link provided for the list instead. The wikia also explains them far better then I could. So...Have a link to his machines.
Weaknesses:
--Rex's ability list is pretty impressive but a lot of this has a serious cost to use as well. Some of them were already mentioned above. Like how his technopathy is a double edged sword, his nanite intake being limited and leading to bad things if he oversteps it, and how his curing ability is not fool proof. There are other drawbacks to his abilities as well and some emotional/mental issues that make him not an unstoppable force of nature.
--Amnesia: It has been mentioned all through out this app that Rex has it, but though it was never stated outright in the show as of yet...it's pretty much infered that the cause of such memory loss was due to his nanites. (In the episode Rabble, it is made mention that Rex blanking out was actually a common thing after the Event to the point he would keep a journal handy for such occasions.) As it is a nanite problem it is also likely that he could suffer another memory wipe at anytime without any warning. As it has been theorized that his memory wipes are triggered by specific trauma of some type. This means that Rex has to be careful or he could one day wake up not knowing anything again.
--Biometrics: (Forget whatever you actually know about such in the real world.) Due to the fact that his nanites are very energy taxing and finicky, Rex is usually being constantly monitored when he's in battle by Holiday. This is because she has to be able to warn him and those backing him up in a fight when his biometric readings start to flatline or become erractic as this is an indicator that he is about to lose all control over his nanites. Effectively making him like a dead battery in terms of his EVO abilities. In the show this usually means that Rex has become physically exhuasted, mentally fatigued, overly stressed, or is too emotional to think straight. All of which are a bad thing in regards to him controlling his nanites. The best case scenario in this sort of situation is that he will be unable to access his abilities until he gets rest/calms down/gets his game face back on. In some rare occasions this could lead to his nanites malfunctioning and forming in ways he doesn't want them to.
--Emotions: Due to the big thing up there, one would think Rex would have a handle on his emotions...he doesn't. He suffers the typical teenage gauntlet of hormone driven state of being. Which at times can really mess with his ability to fight. Especially when creating his machines needs him to be able to visualize the blueprint and how it works to be created. A feat that is hard to do when he's being overly angry at someone or is being depressed. It also means that he oftentimes doesn't really think clearly in certain situations which has landed him in trouble more then once.this is why Six is his nanny not!dad on missions There is also the fact that since Rex tends to be ruled by his emotions that he sometimes knee jerk reacts to things in the wrong way and thus complicate things even more.
--Calorie Intake: Because of how his nanites react to his physical state of being and just how much he eats when they do show him eating, it is safe to assume that the amount of energy he burns normally is already high being a teenager, but add his nanites also eating away at his energy and you have a recipe for a disaster if he is not careful.
--Fighting Capability: To be blunt Rex fails at fighting. He has no actual skill or form and just tends to flail until he hits something. Thus for those who are trained in combat he isn't really a challenge if they can get past his EVO abilities. If he can't make his machines...then he really is out of luck in a fight.
first person sample
[Have an odd sort of buzzing and flickering on the phones there for a moment Abax. Before the ceiling of the morgue is seen and a voice is heard talking to...the phone.]
No bueno phone, fine I didn't want to hear what you had to say anyways even if you didn't blow up on me, that still doesn't mean that was cool. Man this is not funny, Noah? Bobo? You got me. Now give me back my clothes and...my...communicator.
Six? Holiday? White Knight?
Okay Rex, think here man, maybe you got taken by Providence, and this is some mondo weird sort of thing. Wait maybe it's Breech! That's it!
Breach you can stop with the freaky other dimensions here, the last few times was enough wasn't it? Please let me go home. Seriously, we could have gone to the Snack Shack or something if you wanted another awkward and weird conversation. If another EVO attack happens and I'm late to the party I am so not going to be happy if I get yelled at for it because of this. Breach...come one Breach...please tell me I didn't travel in time again.
My goggles!? ¿Dónde están mis gafas? I just got those back, this is not cool at all. I need those goggles, this is a cruel and unusual punishment.
third person sample:
He could handle this, it was not like this wasn't the first time he ended up in some mondo weird place before and look he hadn't even been slimed or eaten by anything yet either. Sure the lack of his favorite clothing and his missing goggles were really bad Feng shui or something, he could still deal. His nanites were working and sooner or later Holiday would find him using that scan of hers if this wasn't an alternate dimension or another planet. The lack of EVOs was a bonus, the lack of people a minus. No Providence to fight against, bonus, no Six to back him up, minus. That list was getting depressing especially the tv column there.
But he would make it, and hopefully Bobo would keep to their deal and was recording his shows for him until he could get back.
Maybe he could go work for someone like a bodyguard or something, his powers were likely amazing and having a hero of the world on hand could come in handy after all. They would probably be fighting over him as soon as he made the offer, though would he really want to listen to someone telling him what to do here with no White Knight glaring at him from his hi-tech hazmat suit. He could do tricks on a street corner if he wanted to or nothing at all. Man, he wouldn’t even have to worry about a curfew or Six telling him he can’t do that. No Holiday either to make him study or worry about his health…no Bobo to joke with, no Noah to hang out with. He was now starting to not see the appeal in this whole no one from his home here with him thing. It was starting to really suck being here.

It also means that he oftentimes doesn't really think clearly in certain situations which has landed him in trouble more then once.
